More Stuff You Can't Make Up....

NOTE: Having spent my boyhood in South Florida, here’s a true story that captures the greed-driven values of the local tourism industry:
During the early stages of the Second World War, Nazi Subs would wait at night off the coast of South Florida where they could see the tankers and freighters silhouetted against the lights of Miami and Fort Lauderdale – sinking them easily.
However, claiming it would harm business, tourist officials in Dade and Broward fought attempts to implement blackouts which had been proposed as a way to save both the ships and the lives of their crews from the Nazi subs.
Thankfully, in the end, the local tourism officials gave in and agreed to the government mandated blackouts that remained throughout most of the war.
