Ask Miss Manners

     Dear Miss Manners:
My son Rollo asked his sister to pull his finger at Dad's funeral.
And then, when she did, he let go with a really loud one.
Then, when I sought to correct his ill mannered behavior, Rollo says it was Sister's fault because she was the one who pulled his finger.
Even worse, Sister claims Dad always loved having her pull his finger and then making a big toot before he died.
     What do you think?
PS - I've enclosed a family picture taken right after Rollo cut the cheese as we gathered around Dad's coffin. (Rollo's the one with the grin, while Sister still has a grip on his finger!)
Distraught in Dallas

     My Dear Distraught:
Personally, I'd sternly chastize both your daughter and son for their shameful dis-respect for the dead.
Especially since -- judging by the photo -- I'm sure Dad's funeral wasn't the first time Sister pulled Rollo's finger to make him fart!
However, each family is unique (Like some families keep the bones of their departed loved ones under the bed.)   .
So, if Sister was truthful in claiming Dad loved doing the finger-pulling fart thing before he died....?
Then, of course, you MUST ask yourself what Dad would have wanted because honoring the memory of a loved one is ALWAYS good manners!

  Sincerely, Miss Manners
