Bullshit by any other name...
(What IS a staff writer ?)
Today’s South Florida Sun-Sentinel carries a 1-A story by Jim Stratton,"staff writer," detailing apparent sweetheart contracts awarded to friends of Florida’s regional state employement work-force boards.
Problem?
Stratton is NOT a “staff writer” for the Fort Lauderdale based paper – but rather a reporter employed by the Sentinel’s sister paper in Orlando.
Again, the Sun-Sentinel claimed its own “staff writers” produced the newspaper’s on-going coverage of Casey Anthony’s sensational murder trial – when in fact the stories were written by “staff writers” employed the Orlando Sentinel.
Which begs three questions:
1. How well does this practice meet the basic requirements of “full disclosure” by a newspaper?
2. Or is this merely another shameless example of self-serving bullshit on the part of one of the nation’s fastest-shrinking newspapers?
3. Or both?
