Today – Climaxing the First Crusade to save the land made holy made the Son of God* from the pagan Muslims and Jews, some 13,500 devout Christian Knights launched the siege of Jerusalem 912 years ago. Responding to a God-inspired vision by a Crusader priest, the knights removed their shoes and marched barefoot around the city before breeching its walls to slaughter most of its Muslim and Jewish residents by sword and fire.Historians of the day reported the Muslim dead were piled higher than the pyramids to be cremated outside the city's walls -- while the Jews were burned alive inside their synagogues. *Note: Along with the gentle Jesus, Jerusalem was also made holy by Moses and Mohammed -- but Pope Urban II said they didn't count.

Birthday Boy –The bastard son of an Austrian servant girl,  Alois Shicklgruber was born 174 years ago today. Changing his name to Hitler after becoming an Austrian civil servant,  the hard-drinking and abusive Alois fathered nine children by three different women – including his youngest son Adolf Hitler, who would grow up to become a failed artist and founder of the Nazi party and Germany’s Third Reich. Four of young Adolf’s brothers and sisters died while Germany’s future Fuhrer was still young, leaving little Adolf deeply insecure and overly-dependent on his mother – despite her inability to protect her son from his drunken father’s savage beatings. At 13, little Adolf had just begin to grow body hair when his father died during his daily morning visit to the local tavern.
