An Old Reporter's Notebook:

Today's news media has become a Greek chorus chanting the obvious, the absurd and the sensational as a background to our lives.
And among the more mindless moments in the daily drama of our lives:
So we're watching a ball game on television...

And the A-Rod hits a towering fly to deep right...
Picking up on the fight of the ball, the right infielder J. D. Drew starts running back, back, back until makes an amazing catch in the warning track for the third out.
Now, as you're watching all this on your 52-inch big screen, the announcer is telling you:

"A-Rod swings and there goes a towering deep fly to deep center.
"And it could go all the way...
"But there goes Drew ....back, back,  back...
"And ... WOW!... J.D. makes an awesome catch on the warning track inches from the wall  to end the third inning."

Or we're up until long after midnight watching the election coverage on our television where we're both told and also see.... ,.

The voting incoming election results which -- over time --- shows and tells us that Republican Rick Whip has defeated his Democratic opponent Lib Lawson to become the new governor of ....
Which is followed by live coverage of Govenor Elect Whip thanking God, his wife, and the voters for the opportunity to serve Jesus, the people and create a bazillion new jobs ...
So we turn off the TV and go to bed.
Then, in our newspaper  the next morning, we read how
"Republican Rick Scott held a commanding lead in last nights election and appeared well on his way to becoming the 49th Governor of .....
"And that we should go to
www.blatnews.com for all the latest election news."
       Oh yes.
We can't forget to watch, read and click on all the latest concerning what's-her-name who was found dead of an apparent drug over-dose in a pool of her own vomit with exclusive pictures on....
